M+A came to me wanting to document their family of 3 before it grew into a family of 4. They knew for a fact they wanted to have their maternity photos taken at Cannon Beach, so we chose THE iconic Haystack Rock as their backdrop. The sea stacks on the Oregon Coast are some of my favorite features.
First Time in Front of the Camera
For M+A, this photoshoot was the first they had ever done. M admitted that they had no idea how this all worked and what it would look like. New experiences and the unknown can feel overwhelming, but they allowed me to take the reins and trusted that I’d steer them in the right direction. I will always have your best interest in mind as a professional. Your wants and needs matter to me.
Are you in the same boat as M+A and heading into your first photoshoot? If so, remember that there is a method to the madness. Some prompting may feel silly in the moment, but it’s done with intention. I know that what I’m asking you to do with have a gorgeous outcome.
The first 10-15 minutes, they’d ask, “Does this look okay?”, “Do we look awkward?” and the classic “What do I do with my hands?”.

With a little reassurance they let their guard down. The family frolicked on the coastline of Cannon Beach for their maternity photos and ended up having loads of fun. After all, part of the fun of family photos is that you are making new memories with each other in the process.
